Using RSS feeds would be great for providing an “at a glance” view of what’s new to read. However, it does rely on each platform having a non-buggy RSS feed; I’ve experienced some where a simple republish of a blog floods the feed with apparently “new” posts of the entire blog, spamming the RSS readers of the feed subscribers.

A blogroll is simpler, covers a wider variety of blogging platforms and is more familiar to people who have limited web experience. However, with no indicator of when new content is available, it is less likely to be used.

Perhaps a hybrid solution of a blogroll for all contributors, and RSS feeds for a select few who are regularly updating elsewhere. I’ll have to have a play with the RSS widget later…

…why not use the RSS widget in the sidebar to channel content from the blogs of friends and contributors directly to this location? Like a feed compiler, but you’ll have to do it manually for each feed.

Or if that becomes too much work, how about a blogroll linking to those kinds of sites? Like a social bookmarking site + blog all rolled into one.
